HOME UPCOMING EVENTS SWINGSHIFT TRIO / QUARTET JG'S FOUR BROTHERS BIO / INFO
Trio / Quartet

Yes, a FOUR saxophone group!  3 tenors and baritone with piano, bass and drums round out this rare and exciting group!  The name “Four Brothers” is derived from the famous Woody Herman Big Band saxophone section of the late 1940’s.  Woody broke with big band tradition and when he started a new band in ’47, he went with this non-traditional saxophone lineup.

The original “Four Brothers” saxophone section consisted of Zoot Sims, Stan Getz, Herbie Steward and Serge Chaloff.
Woody’s famous recording of the tune Four Brothers is what ultimately gave the section its name (and notoriety).

The saxophone section went on to make recordings on their own.  Those recordings as well as other 4 saxophone groups since then are featured in the repertoire of JG’s Four Brothers.

You’ll be highly challenged to find another group that features this great saxophone ensemble writing and soloing.  John is very fortunate to have acquired copies of the original sheet music, making this not only a unique group to hear, but a truly authentic one as well!

Listen to some music selections of John performing with his SwingShift Big Band, jazz trio/quartet and JG's Four Brothers at the  SOUNDCLOUD website.
